In Memory of our Beautiful Maple

Maple spent the first 4.5 years of her life in a puppy mill and was rescued at an auction in Fall 2015 with pyometra and almost died. Her picture with her auction number is included here. She came to us in January 2017 and we were lucky to have her for 6 years before we lost her. Maple was emotionally damaged from her life in the puppy mill and we realized she would never be a normal clingy lap-loving griff but she loved being here with our other dogs and was very happy in her home environment where she felt secure.

Sadly Maple had Chiari Malformation/Syringomyelia – she had mild symptoms that increased as she aged. We and vets agreed she was not in pain – but we maintained her on meds to relieve symptoms. Unfortunately she also had an abdominal mass and thickened intestines and developed Protein Losing Enteropathy in Spring 2023. We let her go in May 2023 – she was only 12. We miss her quiet, gentle presence.
